Present continous

Something that's happening right now

Something that'll happen in the future

The verb ends with -ing

Dynamic and state verbs

Dynamic verbs

= Action verbs

Run, walk, cook, go, ...

Present continous can be used

State verbs

= Non-action verbs

Love, like, believe, belong, hate, know, mean, mind, need, prefer, remember, understand, want, ...

Some verbs (think, have, ...) can be in both groups - example:
